Review: BareMinerals 5-in-1 BB Advanced Performance Cream Eyeshadow

Every now and then, you run across a product that grabs your attention and has multiple purposes, but it doesn’t quite get the attention it deserves across the beauty community. The BareMinerals 5-in-1 BB Advanced Cream Eyeshadow is one of those products that can be filed under the “Under-rated Products” category.  I originally discovered this product several years ago when they first launched. I purchased only one shade at that time and used it almost every day.  I can’t even remember why I stopped using it because it always worked so well and never let me down. Perhaps it was because of the makeup addict in me who is on the never-ending search for bigger and better, always testing buying and testing out new products in search for the latest, greatest thing. However, now find myself with my tail tucked between my legs (figuratively speaking of course), wondering why I ever turned my back on this star product.

The BareMinerals 5-in-1 BB Cream Eyeshadow is a multi-tasking product with various uses and BareMinerals 5-in-1 Applicatorbenefits. It’s one of those things that can eliminate the need for several other products in your cosmetics bag, especially if you currently use a separate eyeshadow primer, eye-area sunscreen, color corrector, and eyeshadow. I have especially dark and hyperpigmented eyelids, and I’m always on the search for products that will cancel out the darkness and allow my eyeshadow to show true-to-color. Just when I find a product that works for that purpose, I find it has issues holding onto my eyeshadows or not creasing throughout the day. Despite the many color correcting primers on the market today, I haven’t found one that serves both purposes effectively. Products are usually good as one product but falls short of expectations in the other. Not BareMinerals 5-in-1 BB Cream Eyeshadow!

This is a great product for so many people, and it serves multiple purposes and benefits:

  1. When you’re on the go and in a rush, this makes an excellent and beautiful all-over lid color lid color that isn’t too harsh or bright. It looks very pretty and professional.
  2. Excellent for mature and/or crepey eyelids. It melts and blends right into any lines and wrinkles without accentuating them.
  3. Makes an excellent primer that can be worn under other eyeshadows or alone as a primary color.
  4. It keeps any other eyeshadow you wear over it in place all day without creasing or fading.
  5. Excellent for color-correcting discolored eyelids.
  6. Contains a physical sunscreen – spf 15 for all-day protection from the sun.

The BareMinerals 5-in-1 BB Advanced Cream Eyeshadow is currently available in 13 shades, some matte and some shimmer: Luminius Pearl,  Barely Nude, Soft Linen, Radient Sand, Sweet Spice, Candelit Peach, Soft Shell, Blushing Pink, Divine Wine, Elegant Taupe, Exotic Lilac, Smokey Expresso, and Rich Camel. Upon very close inspection, some shades contain very subtle shimmer particles, but they dry down completely matte. The shimmer particles are designed to color correct discolored lids and provide a brightening effect without actually looking like glitter or shimmer. Don’t let this dissuade you from trying them. You really can’t detect any shimmer in most shades (the exception is the Luminous Pearl shade which is an actual highlighter/luminous shade as its name implies).

BareMinerals Swatches
Swatches from my personal collection. Hoping to expand soon!

Worn alone, the BareMinerals 5-in-1 eyeshadows provide just enough pigmented color and coverage to look pretty, soft, and professional, without making you appear overly made-up. They blend differently than pressed shadows, as they’re very creamy and feel like silk. Once they set, they stay in place and don’t budge all day until you remove them. They never look dry or accentuate lines and wrinkles. If you’re looking for a shade that will even out your natural lid color and serve primarily as a color-correcting primer, one of my favorites is Soft Linen or Barely Nude for Caucasian skin tones. For darker skin tones, I recommend Elegant Taupe, Rich Camel, or Sweet Spice.

BareMinerals 5-in-1 Blended Out
Shade shown is Exotic Lilic. Left side shows eyeshadow blended out with finger. Right is swatch directly from applicator.

They are best applied by using the applicator wand in the tube to apply the color onto the lids,  blending out with the fingers. I also like applying the product to a eyeshadow sponge applicator (the type that commonly comes in drugstore eyeshadow compacts), using that tool to blend out all over the eyelid. It’s much more sanitary than placing the product’s applicator onto your eyes and placing it back into the container, and it will help extend the life of the product.

If you haven’t given the BareMinerals 5-in-1 eyeshadows a try, it’s definitely worth picking up a shade or two and giving them a whirl. You won’t be disappointed, and you just may be pleased with the idea of not purchasing a separate eyeshadow primer again.

I LOVE Bare Minerals 5 in 1 rue shadow but they are discontinuing them. Have you found another similar product? Please let me know when you do.

No. This is so upsetting and I honestly had no idea until your comment. I’m lucky to have almost all the colors and a couple of shades are still left directly on their website. However, I’ve never found a direct comparison or anything close to these. It’s very difficult for me to find eye primers (especially something that doubles as a shadow with actually colors that you can throw on and run out the door with). With my aging eyes, this has been the best product I’ve found for multiple purposes. I’ll be on the hunt for something new and post a review if I find anything. Thank you for posting this. Now I wish I had purchased more during the last Ulta Beauty sale.
