I’m pretty fortunate to have good skin overall, but if you’re like me, you may have a few things that you’d like to improve as the hands of time tick on. For me personally, I have some issues with hyper-pigmentation, dullness, and dry skin. Recently, I purchased 2 new products with the hope that they would be as great as the claims. I incorporated them into my daily skincare routine, and I watched my skin truly transform and improve within a week. It may sound like an exaggeration, but it’s not.
Skincare products generally take a minimum of 4 to 6 weeks to show any results and signs of improvement. I saw and felt results much faster with these products. What are they? Lotion P50 by Biologique Recherche and Tatcha The Essence. Fortunately, they’re pretty easy to use and incorporate into your daily skincare routine. After cleansing my skin, I apply the Lotion P50 with a cotton round and follow that up with the Tatcha Essence.
Many of you may have heard about Lotion P50 by now. It’s become a cult favorite and is highly recommended by many of your favorite YouTube and beauty influencers. It’s an exfoliating toner that exfoliates the surface layer of your skin while also balancing out your skin’s ph level. This helps the efficacy and absorption of your other skincare products.
Lotion P50 is available in a variety of formulations for every skin type and concern. They even have a formula for people with sensitive skin. I use the original formulation – Original P50 1970 with Phenol, the strongest formula available. It contains the anesthetic/analgesic phenol, which is the same ingredient found in the sore throat spray Chloraseptic. This specific formula isn’t available in many countries outside the USA. It’s specifically banned in the UK, but there are other formulas without phenol that are available outside the USA. This product is primarily available in skincare spas. I purchased mine from Shop Rescue Spa online, a US-based skincare spa.
The version I have smells very medicinal since it contains an anesthetic. It’s a strong smell that fades away quickly after application. The first several days I used it, it caused a strong tingling sensation on my face, but it subsided with continued use over the next week. It leaves the skin feeling absolutely amazing. There’s no comparison to any other product. Seriously! It gave me a very healthy glow, and my skin felt fresh and smooth. It prepares my skin to accept the remaining skincare products in my daily routine.
I highly recommend that everyone give this product a try. Before you purchase, find a retailer that carries it and call them to discuss your skincare type to ensure you order the best formula for your specific skin type. There’s not a 1 size fits all formula, but there is a formula for everyone. I’ll talk more about my results later. Just a quick tip, if you find the singing a little too much to bear after first starting this product, wet your cotton round first before applying the P50 to it.
Tatcha The Essence
The second item I’m using is a very new category of skincare products to me personally. I had never heard of an essence until I watched a Tatcha presentation on QVC a few weeks ago. The use of an
essence is a fairly new concept in the western world, but it’s been used for a long time in countries such as Japan, Korea, and China. I will do a separate blog describing everything you need to know about essences. For the purpose of this discussion, I’ll cover some basics. The Tatcha Essence is a water-like substance that I am now applying after the P50. It’s described on Tatcha’s website as: “A daily 7-second ritual to reveal your softest, most youthful skin. This resurfacing softener of 98.7% pure anti-aging Japanese superfoods makes all skincare work better.” The website also touts the following benefits:
- Anti-aging: Pure concentration of 98.7% Hadasei-3TM, a superfluid of Japan’s three essential nutrients of Green Tea, Rice and Algae for skin health and youthful radiance.
- Smoothing & Resurfacing: The natural fermentation of these nutrients produces lactic acid, helping to increase cell turnover, improve skin texture and create a smooth luster.
- Plumping Hydration: Instantly doubles skin’s natural moisture content, above and beyond the results from a moisturizer, and softens & plumps away fine lines & wrinkles.
- Maximizes Performance of All Skincare: Skin’s water channels are flush with lasting hydration, which creates a pathway to deliver treatments more deeply, amplifying their effectiveness.
Its important to note that I no longer use any toner or product that lists “alcohol” in the ingredients, as it’s very drying and can strip your skin of what it needs to maintain a proper balance. I have completely replaced the American version of a “toner” with alcohol with the P50 and Tatcha Essence.
Even if you don’t use the same essence that I am, I truly believe that incorporating an essence into your routine can make a substantial difference in the overall health and appearance of your skin, while also allowing your other skincare products to penetrate deeper where they’ll be more effective. There are other brands that make an essence, some of which are a little thicker than water while delivering the same benefits. Another one that I’ve recently tried is the Belif Hungarian Water Essence.
After just 1 week of using these products, I noticed a remarkable difference in my skin. Other people have noticed too. I receive compliments all the time from people in public, who remark at how bright, smooth, and clear my skin is. They also comment on my age when I tell them I’m 41. They truly don’t believe me (or so they say). Most people say that I look like I’m in my late 20’s or early 30’s. I’ve certainly noticed a visible difference and the people who know me have noticed also.
Taking special care of my skin for decades has certainly played a part in my overall youthful appearance, but there’s an increased improvement in the softness of my skin and the natural glow that I have now. I’m also don’t need to wear as much foundation and makeup as I used to. I’ve been able to go out wearing only a BB or CC cream with lipstick and still look great since I’m not covering up any major skin imperfections. I’ve also noticed some other differences when applying my skincare routine. The P50 lotion, which once stung for a few seconds after application, now doesn’t produce that same sensation on my face. The stinging goes away when the skin is balanced, which I’ve finally achieved, and this allows my skin to receive the benefits that my other skincare products can deliver.
